The suspect knew that she was going to buy candies at a local market with her friends. He followed her and when he saw her alone and not surrounded by any of her friends, he snatched her into his car and fled away. On December 21, 2020, David Emery Misch was recognized as the man behind Michael’s abduction and was apprehended.
It has been 32 years and still, Michael’s body has not been discovered. Not only Garecht’s murder but Misch has also been accused of killing two other individuals; kidnapping and murdering two best friends, Michelle Xavier (18 years old) and Jennifer Ann Duey (20 years old). As reported by Fremont Police detectives, they were brutally stabbed on the shoulder and thrown in the middle of a road in Fremont, California. (update: 12/23/2020)
